Agriculture

Agriculture is considered as the backbone of Indian Economy. As we know that plants require water, sunlight, oxygen, and nutrients for their growth and development, but there are some factors which we provide to plants are harmful for their health, hence there is need to avoid those factors. Yes, it is nothing but the synthetic fertilizers which we provide to plant as plant nutrient are harmful for their health.
Along with chemical fertilizers the farmers also uses chemical pesticides. This pesticide not only kills specific pest but also many friendly organisms. People are getting health conscious these days. On average, conventional farmers apply 2-12+ synthetic pesticides to their crops. The average serving of conventionally grown leafy greens, peppers, tree fruits, berries, and grapes contains three to four pesticide residues.
Residues of some widely used pesticides may trigger subtle changes in a child’s development, and have been linked to a wide range of health problems including ADHD, autism, obesity, and certain forms of cancer. But people are ready to pay a premium price for good chemical free products. So there is need to find an alternative for these synthetic fertilizers.

INTERVENTION AND SOLUTIONS

To sustain the present agriculture, the farmers need to be trained and turned into organic farming. Organic farming is one way to promote either self-sufficiency or food security. Use of massive inputs of chemical fertilizers and toxic pesticides poisons the land and water heavily. The aftereffects of this are severe environmental consequences, including loss of topsoil, decrease in soil fertility, surface and ground water contamination and loss of genetic diversity.
